For your home

From making a recommendation, setup, installing devices, to going wireless and getting all your devices talking to each other, I have it all covered.

Information technology is an inevitable part of modern living. It can bring together people from all over the world, it has the ability to manage our information in intelligent ways, and it can do work while leaving us free to get on with our lives. Too often, however, it can give cause for anxiety.

That’s where I can help you out. From making a recommendation for a new computer, setting it up, installing your printers and other devices, to going wireless and getting all your devices talking to each other, I have it all covered.

Everyone is different, and has different levels of comfort and technical skills. That’s why I don’t have a one-size-fits-all approach.

Would you like me to do everything so that you can get the technology out of the way and do what you need to? Or, would you like me to talk you through the technical steps so that you know what to do next time things aren’t working? I’ll work with you in whichever way you find most comfortable.

If you already have a Mac, we can talk about how well it’s running — if you’re happy with it, and want to know more about its features and capabilities — or are frustrated by crashing programs, confusing workflows, or aspects of your Mac that you simply don’t understand. If it’s running slowly, we can see if upgrades would be appropriate, such as more memory or a larger, faster hard drive. I’ll always make a recommendation that makes the most sense for you, whether you need it to fit your budget, or want a solution that is easy to maintain.

Computers and networks

Having multiple computers and devices is now the norm — Macs,  Windows PCs, smartphones and media streaming devices all need to coexist on your network, access the internet, and share files. Want to go wireless but don’t know where to start — or want to make your network more secure?

Perhaps you have more specific requirements for your home – you might run a home business and need advice on databases to keep your records organized. Perhaps you have a stack of home videos that you’d like to convert to DVD, or post online for your overseas friends and relatives to enjoy. I can put together a solution for almost any situation – put me to the challenge!

To find out the kind of people that I’ve worked with, take a look at some real-life examples.

I can give you one-on-one lessons on any aspect of your computer, from the very basic to the more advanced. For example: sharing your pictures and movies with your friends and family; how to back up and recover your important files; setting up a website for your family or home business; organizing your documents and emails using folders or a database.

Remote assistance

Since it’s not always possible to meet in person, many of my clients like the convenience of remote support. You can share out your screen, so I can see what’s going on with your computer, and I can even take control, with your permission, to help you through a solution. Since we’ll be able to hear one another, we can even structure lessons this way!
